This global pandemic truly sucks!

I didn’t even make my bed this morning, that’s how bad it sucks.

But I can’t blame anyone, really. Blaming the government or the President, or whomever you think is responsible for what you’re going through won’t bring your business back or lessen the pain.

As a small business owner, I would be shocked and, at the same time, happy if I get help from the government. But I won’t hold my breath.  Because I have to admit:  I’m a true patriot, but I love this country more than I love its government.

I truly believe that in moments like this, everyone is in it for himself or herself. For example, it’s very likely you would have done the same thing if you were Ruth Chris Steakhouse and offered a 20 million dollar bailout.

When the amygdala kicks in, it’s flight or fight. At this point it’s survival of the fittest among small businesses — any type of business, really — among people, too.

As a business, if you’re already established and in demand, you might have a chance of survival. But there is no guarantee. That’s what usually happens in situations like this. Some will make it and some won’t. If you make it out of this pandemic in one piece, kudos to you! If you don’t, you must start all over again or hang it up.

Being a former professional athlete has taught me to look at every situation with an objective eye if I want to learn anything from it.

In this case, I’ve done my best!  I’ve left it all on the mat. Now it’s in the judges’ hands. It’s going to hurt and there are going to be losses.

That’s just how life goes.

What’s important right now is how we respond to what’s happening to us and around us. I believe if we want to increase our chances of coming out of this global crisis whole, we need to do the following:

HELP OTHERS. People will remember who was there for them when they needed someone the most. The ones you help right now are the ones who are going to help you later. Just give; it’s good for the soul.

WORK HARDER. Just because you have time off doesn’t mean you’re on vacation. There’s still work to be done. Stay busy, be productive and keep your fire going.

STAY FOCUSED. We’re living in confusing times. You need to step up your game if you want to move in the right direction. Keep your focus on the prize. Your job might be gone, but your goals are still there. Stay focused.

REST. During this pandemic, you might have gained more free time. Take advantage of it. Rest, sleep, recharge your batteries. When we’re back at it we’ll need all the fuel we can get, so refuel now.

BREATHE. Times are challenging. Take deep breaths and stay calm. In the end, we’re all going to be okay. Believe that!

After many sleepless nights, I made up my mind. Whatever happens, happens. I just want to come out of this healthy and sane. Anything else is a BONUS.

Whether I get help from the government or not, I won’t go out without a fight. I might lose some sleep, I might even lose some money, but one thing I know is I’m gaining a true community and an even bigger family. These are the real lessons and real gains:  relationships and connections that will last a lifetime. For me, that’s what come out this mess:  A Bigger Family.  Regular people have turned into friends, and friends have turned into family members. Because of your help, you’ve turned something worrisome into something awesome.  You’ve turned fear into love.

THANK YOU, Harold, for your continued support. THANK YOU Seth, Dianne, and Betsy. You’ve joined many others on my list of heroes. The fight is far from over. However, knowing I have you on my side gives me the strength and hope to keep going.

Staying mentally and physically active is critical. It not only helps us manage these challenging times, it will also help us come out of them better than before.

It is Week Six of the quarantine and your clothes are probably getting tighter and your appetite bigger. Have no worries, I’ve included some new and exciting workouts for this week. They are designed to cut down your appetite and keep your thighs in check 😉
